Where the court is, what it charges and how to file there.

Step by step

Six steps to start an estate in Rockdale County

  1. Round up the death certificate and any will. Write each relative's name and address.
  2. Read the court's estates pages and our forms guide.
  3. Finish the petition, then email it to the court to learn the exact fee. The court asks for that.
  4. File in person at 874 N. Main Street, or mail it to the P.O. Box.
  5. Pay the fee the clerk gives you. The court says most run $250 to $400.
  6. Ask about the oath. Notices run in the Rockdale/Newton Citizen.

These steps give the general path. They do not say which petition fits your family.
