Step by step
Six steps to start an estate in Douglas County
- Gather the death certificate and any will. Add a list of family names and addresses.
- Open the Estates and Forms pages on the Douglas County site, next to our forms guide.
- Get every paper finished and notarized before you file. The staff will not fill them in for you.
- Mail the papers, which the court suggests, or bring them to the fourth floor on Hospital Drive.
- Send an attorney check or a money order for the fee if you mail it. The state calculator shows $207.
- Book a virtual oath online. Ask which newspaper runs the notice.
These steps give the general path. They do not say which petition fits your family.
